Carol Playing 2003
On Thursday 12th.
February 2004 members of the Dereham Band met with
representatives
from the Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support to hand
over a cheque for the money raised by Carol
playing over the Christmas period. The grand total of £1275.20 was
gratefully received by the group, who said they had never had so much fun
collecting before. The Band could be found braving the winter elements at various locations
throughout the county playing traditional carols to the busy shoppers and trying
to persuade them to part with their cash.
Money was
raised by playing Carols outside of Safeway’s
supermarket
in Swaffham (£399.40), Tesco’s Supermarket
in Dereham (£615.71). Donations
from playing at the Rotary and Inner Wheel Christmas Dinner (£165) and Band
members’ donations (£75). Each year the band chooses a local charity from
nominations made by the members and raises money in this way, it is a way of
giving something back to the local community as
thanks for the support the band receives during
the year.
The Swaffham and Litcham
Home Hospice work to support people in the local
community who are seriously ill. They help with equipment and emotional
support to both patients and their families, stepping in to give breaks to
carers when necessary, someone to chat to, or sourcing something that would make
life easier at a difficult time.
Both
the Dereham Band and the Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice would like to thank
everybody who gave so generously to this collection.
